Great tofu doesn’t need a PhD. Just clean ingredients, a time-tested method that’s been around for, oh, about 2000 years, and zero weird additives that neither you nor we can pronounce. For over 30 years, we’ve kept it simple: make tofu the way we like it – tasty, high-quality, and easy enough to toss into any meal, any time, any way you want.

Our story
It began with a son who just wanted to help his mom feel better.
When Ján Lunter’s mother faced serious health issues, he went looking for something – anything – that could support her well-being. That’s when he came across tofu. packed with health benefits, full of potential, and totally underappreciated. What started as a personal mission turned into something much bigger.
So, in the basement of the family home in Banská Bystrica, he began making tofu. Yep, real, honest-to-goodness tofu – no fancy machines, no weird ingredients, just the good stuff – and deserved way more than just the “for vegetarians only” label. Back then, tofu wasn’t exactly trending (unless you were in Asia, where it’s basically a national treasure). And as Mr. Lunter likes to say: “If you didn’t have sausage slices for dinner every night, it was like you didn’t exist.”
But he believed tofu belonged at the everyday table. It was versatile, nourishing, and – most importantly – something everyone could enjoy. And we still believe that.
We looked to the East for inspiration, kept things simple, and somehow turned a basement project into something way bigger. Year after year, thanks to our family, friends, fans, and eventually some very dedicated team members, we grew. We invested in product development, upgraded to actual equipment (goodbye, basement), and never stopped improving.
Today, we continue to follow Ján Lunter´s vision with heart and dedication – and we’d love for you to be part of that journey, too.


Milestones
1980
Ján Lunter became interested in healthy eating when his mother fell ill. He discovered the health benefits of tofu consumption and began writing its story in the basement of the family home.
1991
ALFA BIO is born. First tofu batch: 200–500 kg/month. Production still takes place in the family home
1994
We head to Japan for inspiration. Because if you’re gonna do tofu, why not learn from the best?
2001
Enter Lunter spreads! A family friend whips up the first French-style spread with tofu, okara, and love.
2012
We go Czech.
2015
We go Polish.
2020
We grow again and launch Plant Republic for Western Europe.
2021
Our products are now exported to 26 countries in Europe.
2024
We join New Originals Company and become Europe’s biggest tofu maker. That’s over 700 people, 4 factories, and a LOT of tofu.
